Whatever you think of #MotivationMonday, there’s no denying the appeal of inspirational quotes. We love them ourselves — if you follow us on Instagram, you already know that. Every other week, we start off Monday by sharing a quote, usually something related to creativity, quality work, or enthusiasm.
Quotes package big ideas in a short, usually clever way. They’re easy to remember, and they make their ideas easy to remember too. (That’s why they’re so useful for motivating people.) The trouble with sharing them on social media, though, is that they don’t stick around in people’s feeds very long. But what if you could share a quote and make it (1) impossible to miss and (2) easy to see time and again?
Guess what? Installing a quote wall in your office is a great way of doing just that! Quotes can be a particularly enjoyable element in designing an office environment that reflects your company’s brand. There’s two big goals quote walls can help you achieve: inspiring people, and reinforcing your core values.
Using Quote Walls to Inspire
“Only those who attempt the absurd can achieve the impossible” — Albert Einstein. “Inspiration is one thing…but hard work is what keeps the ship moving” — Kevin Eubanks. “As much as talent counts, effort counts twice” — Angela Duckworth.
We’ve shared all those quotes on social media before to inspire and encourage our followers. Who couldn’t use a word of encouragement sometimes? Sometimes, a peppy reminder is just what you need to get over feeling stuck or out of ideas. And sharing upbeat quotes is one way to build a positive, upbeat environment.
The same goes for your environment in the office. Quotes are among the most popular ways for employees to decorate their own spaces, of course. But you can also choose a motivational saying to turn into a quote wall for the whole office to appreciate.
Our clients at Saginaw Control and Engineering had us create the quote wall you see at the top of the page. It reminds all their employees that “the only way to coast is downhill,” encouraging them to pursue excellence and keep giving their best efforts. With the glowing letters, it’s impossible to miss.
Using Quote Walls to Build Company Culture
Of course, SCE’s quote wall isn’t just for employees. It also tells their clients — and potential clients — that they care about quality work, innovation, and effort.
Quote walls can be a way of sharing your company culture, you see. Most of the quotes we share on Instagram are somehow related to our core values, which gives people an idea of who we are and what we stand for. If a potential client resonates with a particular quote, he or she might decide to learn a little bit more, giving us the chance to earn the business of someone new.
Or take the quote in our printing area: “The man who has no imagination has no wings” (Muhammad Ali). That one doesn’t advertise our core values as much as it reminds our employees of them. We believe in using creative thinking and most of us here list “being creative” as one of our favorite things about our jobs. But creativity doesn’t always come easy — sometimes people need a little extra inspiration to tap into it.
So if adding some pep to your space, inspiring your employees, and enhancing your company culture sounds good to you, consider putting a quote wall in your office. Don’t be afraid to dream big when it comes to the size and design, either. After all, “If you can dream it, you can achieve it!”
